Are you doing the Bouquet & Garter Toss?

One of the questions that we ask brides and grooms here at, western Newfoundland’s wedding & party DJ service involves the bouquet and garter toss.  In recent years, many brides and grooms have opted not to do this at their wedding.

It may seem unbelievable, but about 80% of the weddings no longer have the bouquet and garter toss.  Many brides and grooms have opted for modern versions of this “traditional” event, offering up the centre pieces on the tables to the oldest couple or the couple married the longest in the room.

When asked about the bouquet and garter toss, people want to avoid awkward scenarios where there is a young gentleman or lady that catches the bouquet or garter.  A situation could arise where a younger lady catches the bouquet and an older gentleman the garter or vice versa.  Brides and grooms want to avoid this uncomfortable scenario.

However, if you are opting for this activity, consider there are typically four songs required.  Yes, it can be done in less but here at, we suggest the following:

  • A song for the bouquet toss
  • A song for the garter removal
  • A song for the garter toss; and
  • A song for the gentleman that caught the garter can place in on the lady who caught the bouquet

Whatever you opt to do at your wedding, remember to have fun.
